BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 28. Electricity production in Iran is expected to grow to 85,000 megawatt hours (MWh) in the second half of August 2025, the report of the Iranian TAVANIR company on six-month electricity consumption said, Trend reports.
The report shows that this is more than the electricity production potential of the country's thermal power plants (TPPs).
The information pointed out that during the peak of electricity consumption in the country, 57,000 MWh of electricity are planned to be produced daily at the TPPs.
Moreover, it was also pointed out that the country's hydropower plants and Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant will be connected to electricity production in the second half of June.
TAVANIR Company predicted that when the country's electricity consumption reaches its maximum in the second half of August, eliminating part of the electricity shortage through electricity imports will be put on the agenda.
Iran's electricity generation potential was 93,455 MW. The production potential of the local thermal power plants was 76,257 MW, hydropower plants - 12,144 MW, retail power plants - 2,485 MW, renewable power plants - 1,450 MW, the Bushehr nuclear power plant - 1,020 MW, and diesel units -408 MW.
