GABALA, Azerbaijan, April 11. The "Peace Bridge" Initiative has allowed to achieve a certain level of normalization between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Coordinator, President of the Armenian Council, Areg Kochinyan said at a briefing within the framework of the initiative during a meeting of representatives of Azerbaijani and Armenian civil societies, Trend’s special correspondent reports.
"Representatives of civil society, expert circles, civil society, and the media in Armenia crossed the delimited and demarcated part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, which in itself is an important symbolic step, demonstrating how tangible peace has become and how close we are to implementing the peace agenda discussed in Washington.
The goal of the 'Peace Bridge' Initiative is contacts between representatives of civil society, experts, and the media. The first goal is to prepare societies in our countries for peace. After more than 30 years of conflict, this is important. It's also a platform where experts can bring new ideas and new issues that have not yet been discussed in government negotiations, to test the parties' reactions and approaches to these issues. And sometimes it turns out that these issues also arise in official negotiations. The very fact that the fourth meeting of the 'Peace Bridge' Initiative is taking place today is already an important result. When we first began, during the first visit, and then the second, there were many doubts about the possibility of continuation, the possibility of institutionalizing this initiative. And now "This is our fourth meeting, and we don't intend to stop," he said.
Kochinyan noted that, at the same time, the initiative has reached a certain level of normalization.
"We also agreed to hold joint events that will be complementary products of our work, our cooperation," he added.
The discussions, held from April 10 through 12, focus on promoting dialogue and direct engagement between civil society actors from both countries. The meeting is set to continue through April 12.
The “Peace Bridge” Initiative continues to foster dialogue and direct engagement between civil society representatives from Azerbaijan and Armenia. On this occasion, the Armenian delegation arrived in Azerbaijan via the land border, crossing through a formally delimited and demarcated section and undergoing all relevant border and passport control procedures.
The dialogue between civil society representatives is taking place within the framework of the agreed bilateral peace agenda endorsed at the trilateral summit of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the United States held in Washington, D.C. on 8 August 2025.
The meeting agenda includes discussions on the current state of the peace process; the activities undertaken by participants in the “Peace Bridge” Initiative in their respective countries and the results of those efforts; as well as the situation in the region.
Separate sessions will also be devoted to efforts to advance peace at the societal level and to increase trust during the next stages of the peace process.
