ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 7. Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, met with the British Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Mrs. Kathy Leach, where they discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation and shared priorities in the energy sector, Trend reports.
In the course of the meeting, both parties focused on the development of energy infrastructure and the transition to sustainable energy in line with global climate objectives. Special attention was given to ensuring the reliability of energy resource supplies and fostering regional cooperation.
Ambassador Leach highlighted Kazakhstan's efforts to decarbonize its oil and gas sector and its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. She also noted Kazakhstan's participation in the Global Methane Pledge and the "Hydrogen Breakthrough Agenda," an initiative aimed at advancing hydrogen energy.
Minister Akkenzhenov emphasized the importance of international partnerships in tackling global energy challenges. He pointed to the potential of renewable and hydrogen energy development as key elements in diversifying Kazakhstan’s energy mix, underscoring the role of large infrastructure projects and attracting investments.
"We greatly value our partnership and are committed to further strengthening it. Kazakhstan is modernizing its energy sector, reducing its carbon footprint, and contributing to global climate efforts. I am confident that we have excellent opportunities to collaborate on green technologies and investments, which will benefit both of our countries," said Akkenzhenov.
The two sides also discussed the significance of regional cooperation on water-energy programs to ensure the sustainable development of Central Asia.
Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom were officially established on January 19, 1992. The UK opened its embassy in Kazakhstan in October 1992, and Kazakhstan opened its embassy in the UK in February 1996.
