BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 15. Border trade in West Azerbaijan province, located in northwestern Iran, reached $88 million during the first 3 months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through June 21, 2025), Sakhavat Kheirkhah, the head director of the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Trade’s regional office in West Azerbaijan, Trend reports.
Speaking to local media, Kheirkhah noted that $84 million of this trade was conducted by small traders (peddling), while small cooperatives accounted for $4 million.
He added that small traders exported $49 million worth of goods and imported $36 million, while cooperatives exported and imported $2 million worth of goods each.
The official reported that 141,000 tons of products were traded during this period, including 110,000 tons exported and 31,000 tons imported. Key traded items included electrical and household appliances, technical equipment, rubber products, carpets, apples, and more.
Additionally, data from Iran’s Customs Administration revealed that non-oil product exports totaled around $11.7 billion and 34.5 million tons during the same period, marking a decline of 14.4 percent in value and 9.3 percent in weight compared to last year.
