BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. bp has outlined the measures taken to address potential contamination in certain batches of Azerbaijani oil, Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, Vice President of bp in the Caspian region, told reporters, Trend reports.
“The situation is currently stabilizing, work is underway to resolve the problem, and the loading of crude oil from the Ceyhan terminal onto tankers continues. To ensure the quality of the oil loaded onto tankers, the quality of the oil is checked before each loading,” he said.
Some time ago, BP Plc, the operator of major Caspian oil and gas projects, reported receiving information about potential contamination issues with some batches of Azerbaijani oil.
The company announced that these problems were related to organic chlorides in the oil. It was noted that this chemical could damage oil refineries and equipment in sufficient quantities.
A significant volume of Azerbaijani oil is transported to the port of Ceyhan on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey via a 1,768 km oil pipeline. This pipeline was built by BTC Co. (Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan) and is operated by bp.
