Iran to sell 16 power plants to private sector

Iran has finalized assignment of 16 power plants to the private sector and sold another four power plants as well, IRNA reported quoting Energy Minister Majid Namjou as saying.

"The ministry expects to sell 38 power-distributing companies to the private sector while the process of selling 16 power plants is finalized," he said.

The Iranian government is encouraging privatization in line with Fifth Economic Development Plan (2010-2015).

The Iranian Privatization Organization seeks to improve its budget and assignment of high numbers of companies.

The rate of Privatization doubled this Iranian calendar year (started on March 21, 2011) while most of assignment cases belongs to Iran communication network valued $90 million.

Previously deputy of Parliament industrial commission Ahmad Mahdavi said Iran's industries are almost halted due to lack of financial sources while only 13 percent the privatization process done in the last Iranian year (ended on March 20, 2011) was real.
