Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakh railway) plans to purchase 19,000 freight cars and over 300 locomotives in 2012 - 2014, Kazakh Transport and Communications Ministry reported on Thursday.
"Transport and Communications Minister Askar Zhumagaliyev and Kazakstan Temir Zholy President Askar Mamin signed an action plan to improve the quality of freight rail transportation... So, in order to increase the number of trains, KTZ plans to purchase about 19,000 freight cars and more than 300 locomotives in the next three years (14,737 freight cars and 134 locomotives in 2012, 1,784 freight trains and 93 locomotives in 2013 and 2,410 freight cars and 98 locomotives in 2014)," the Ministry said.
In order to reduce the time of goods delivery, where the main factor is the condition of the rail facilities, KTZ plans to overhaul and modernize almost 2,000 km of railways (641 km - in 2012, 650 km - in 2013 and 660 km in 2014).
Moreover, in 2012 KTZ plans to implement an automated management system.
Within the signed document, the parties also agreed to work together in order to improve the existing legislation in the sphere of transport and transportation.
