Trend:
Iranian government has invested about $880 million in implementing fish farming projects in the country's Golestan Province during past seven years, said Managing Director of Fisheries Organization in the province.
"The most important initiatives include investment in developing infrastructure for a 10,000-hectare shrimp farm and using water wells for fish and cage fish farming," said Javad Ghods Alavi, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"There are currently eight fish processing industries in the province with production capacity of 7,200 tons of processed fish per year," he said. "It is important to have developed infrastructure in the province's fishery industry to boost the sector and create new jobs."
"So far, nine investors have obtained permit for cage fish farming with annual production capacity of 2,750 tons, and seven other investors received license to produce 2,000 tons of fish per year," Ghods Alavi added.
"Total of $3 million invested in 39 projects will help open 195 job places in fish farming field; it is also planned to create pools for farming shrimp and sturgeon," he said.
Golestan province ranks third in the country in terms of shrimp production after Bushehr and Hormozgan provinces and accounts for 14 percent of Iran's total shrimp production.
