The production of wheat in Iran's Qazvin Province is 2.5 times more than the annual needs of the people living here, thanks to the government's efforts to increase the production, the deputy head of Qazvin`s agricultural Jihad Organization Majid Esmaili said, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"The total wheat demands of Qazvin province is 120,000 tons per year. With proper cultivation and control of pest spread, the total production is more than 2.5 times of the demand," he said.
Referring to the production and harvest of 335,000 tons of wheat in Qazvin province in the current Iranian year (started on March 20), he added that of this amount, about 210,000 tons were purchased from farmers by the government at the guaranteed price.
The official said that in order to ensure the food security of the people, the government purchases wheat from farmers every year with a significant amount of credit at guaranteed price.
Qazvin province has 489,000 hectares of agricultural lands. The highest amount of crop cultivation in agricultural lands of Qazvin, like most provinces of the country, is allocated to wheat.
