BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 7. Kyrgyzstan is exploring the possibility of constructing a new international airport in the Jalal-Abad region, Trend reports.
This announcement was made by President Sadyr Zhaparov in a message celebrating Civil Aviation Day.
"As part of the National Development Program for Kyrgyzstan, the Manas International Airport has financed the reconstruction of regional airports in Karakol, Kazarman, Kerben, Talas, and Naryn," the president said.
He went on to say that the fleet is being upgraded and extended with new planes, and that flights to these airports should resume soon.
"Additionally, we are considering the construction of a new international airport in the Jalal-Abad region," Zhaparov noted.
He emphasized that in recent years, air connections have been established with Kuwait, South Korea, Azerbaijan, and Saudi Arabia, resulting in annual growth in passenger traffic.
"These achievements demonstrate that our country is actively strengthening international ties and cooperation. I am proud to note that Manas International Airport has achieved significant success. While the airport's net profit was 2.1 billion soms ($24.7 million) in 2019, it rose to 6 billion soms ($70.8 million) in 2023, which is a growth of 52 percent," Zhaparov said.
The president underscored that civil aviation is a vital component of Kyrgyzstan's development, playing a key role in economic, cultural, and social processes.
"As a mountainous country without direct access to the sea, aviation is critically important for connectivity both within the country and with other nations," he said.
