The US move to impose sanctions on an Iranian bank is part of Washington's propaganda against Tehran, Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Shamseddin Hosseini said, Press TV reported with reference to IRNA.

On Tuesday, the US Treasury Department froze the assets of Iran's Bank of Industry and Mine (BIM) for providing financial services to two other financial institutions, which are already under sanctions for their connections with Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

"What the Americans say in this regard is a psychological [campaign], and the media should not pay attention to it," Hosseini told on Wednesday.

On Monday, the US lawmakers in the House of Representatives unveiled a legislation to intensify economic sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

The new bipartisan measure is aimed at toughening punitive measures against entities that invest in the country's energy sector or provide gasoline to Tehran.

"The Americans say something and try to exaggerate it through media hype," Hosseini added.

The Iranian minister pointed to the numerous efforts made by different US administrations to enforce Washington's "hegemonic position" against the Islamic Republic, saying anti-Iran sanctions, particularly resolution 1929, are the continuation of such policies.

On June 9, the UN Security Council imposed the US-engineered sanctions resolution 1929 against Iran over allegations that Tehran might be developing a military nuclear program.

Iranian officials refute such allegations and stress that as a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency and a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran has a legitimate right to pursue peaceful nuclear technology.
