Suspected militants killed three guards at a terminal for NATO supply trucks in the Pakistani Khyber tribal region, officials said Friday, Xinhua reported.

Khyber tribal region is the main supply route for nearly 150, 000 NATO troops in Afghanistan.

Taliban militants regularly target NATO supply vehicles in Pakistan, the main and the nearest supply route for NATO troops. Officials say that around 70 percent supplies are transported through Pakistan.

Officials said the people on Friday morning found bodies of three guards at a terminal for the NATO trucks in Khyber agency, near the Afghan border.

Two other guards were missing and officials believed they were kidnapped by the militants.

Taliban militants have on several occasions warned the drivers and contractors not to take supplies for NATO forces through Pakistan.

Pakistani officials say that security of the NATO trucks and drivers is the main responsibility of the contractors.

The United Stated has already struck a deal with Russia for an alternate supply route for NATO forces in Afghanistan.
