Azerbaijan, Baku, April 17 / Trend , A. Huseynbala/
Alliance of Azerbaijani opposition parties has not yet adopted a final decision on participation in the municipal elections.
"Each member party will hold discussions on this issue. The final decision will be adopted in early May," Taraqqi party chairman Chingiz Demiroglu told Trend . Tereqqi is a part of Tereqqi Alliance of Azerbaijan (TAA).
Azerbaijan will hold municipal elections in December 2009.
Previous municipal elections were held in 1999 and 2004.
Demiroglu said the TAA faces many problems which impedes it to take part in the elections. "Therefore party's participation in the elections individually is an acceptable option," he said.
He said alliance members can nominate candidates for municipal elections individually, but stage election campaign together. "The alliance will probably decide to do so," Demiroglu said.
Taraqqi (Progress) acted as radical opposition party for over ten years. In 2008, the party took loyal position and supported Ilham Aliyev's nomination for presidency.
Tereqqi Alliance of Azerbaijan was founded in 1993. The alliance includes 21 opposition parties. It is cooperation body for member parties.
