BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 28. A video conference was held under the leadership of Saadat Kerimi, Chairperson of the Gobustan Society of Azerbaijani Intellectuals, with the participation of over a hundred individuals, including members of the society, public activists, family members of the January 20 tragedy martyrs, and veterans of the Nagorno-Karabakh war, Trend reports.

During the conference, a resolution was unanimously adopted, calling for the Norwegian Nobel Committee to revoke the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Mikhail Gorbachev in 1990.

An open letter addressed to Nobel Committee Chairman Jørgen Watne Frydnes and its members raised the issue of the unfairness of awarding the prize to Gorbachev. The letter emphasized that Gorbachev bears primary responsibility for the January 20 tragedy, noting that it was under his orders that Soviet troops entered Baku and other parts of Azerbaijan in 1990.

The resolution demanded that Gorbachev be stripped of his Nobel Prize, asserting that this action would restore historical justice, demonstrate the Nobel Committee's respect for the Azerbaijani people, and increase confidence in the moral authority of the prize. The need to uphold the fundamental values that the Nobel Prize is based upon was specifically highlighted.

The letter further stated that the January 20 tragedy is not only a crime against the Azerbaijani people but also against humanity as a whole.
