Contamination of Azerbaijan's Kur and Araz rivers surpass norms in the territory of Georgia and Armenia, the Azerbaijani Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry said.

The next monitoring was held in the first decade of May to study level of contamination of Kur and Araz trans-boundary rivers. During this period water discharge in Kur increased 315 cubic meters per second compared to the third decade and totaled 566 cubic meters, the Ministry told Trend .

The monitoring revealed that domestic wastes and wastes from Armenian and Georgian industrial enterprises flow to Kur without filtration which has increased biogenic substances in the river. Mixture of phenol and copper combinations, which are major contaminators, surpass norms to a great degree.

According to the monitoring results, water discharge from trans-boundary Araz River which crosses Armenia was 115 cubic meters per second. Copper combinations surpassed norm in Horadiz section by twice, in Bahramtapa thrice and phenol combinations twice.
