ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 27. Kazakhstan has announced the launch of a project to construct a new, fourth large oil refinery, Trend reports.
The construction and location selection for the refinery will depend on a number of factors, including the pace of transport electrification, energy resource consumption levels, and the country's export capabilities.
According to sources from the Oil and Gas Council, the development of the technical and economic justification and the project and estimate documentation will be carried out in stages, with the goal of completing this process by 2028-2030. Construction of the refinery and its launch are planned for 2040, with an expected capacity of at least 10 million tons per year.
To note, as part of the industry development strategy until 2032, Kazakhstan plans significant expansion of the production capacity of existing refineries in Shymkent, Pavlodar, and Atyrau, as well as the bitumen plant in Aktau. The production of oil products is expected to increase from the current 18 million tons to 28 million tons per year.
