BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 9. The Sharur solar power plant with a capacity of 11 megawatts has shown a steady increase in electricity production in recent years, the State Energy Service of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic responds to Trend's inquiry.

The output in 2024 amounted to 17.6 million kilowatt-hours, which is 1.5 million kilowatt-hours more than in 2023 (16.1 million kilowatt-hours).

The station produced 12.5 million kilowatt-hours in 2022, which is almost twice as much as in 2021; at that time, the production amounted to 6.4 million kilowatt-hours. Meanwhile, in 2020, the plant was not in operation yet.

In just four short years, electricity production has nearly tripled, shining a bright light on the remarkable growth of solar energy in the region.

The agreement between the State Energy Service of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and Pure Energy Development SARL, a Swiss company, on the construction of a new 5-megawatt power plant was signed in Zeyva village of Sharur district on August 16, 2020.

The design capacity of the station was increased by another 3 megawatts on June 5, 2021. Then, on June 2, 2023, the plant's capacity was increased by another 3 megawatts to 11 megawatts.

It is expected that the plant will generate 16.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which is 65÷70 percent of Sharur district's electricity demand.
