BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. The volume of non-performing loans in Azerbaijani banks reached 698.6 million manat ($410.9 million) by the end of February 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the Central Bank (CBA) indicates that this figure represents an increase of 8 million manat ($4.7 million), or 1.2 percent, compared to the end of the previous month, when the volume stood at 690.6 million manat ($406.2 million).
During this period, 382.5 million manat ($224.9 million) of the non-performing loans were attributed to business loans, 282.1 million manat ($165.9 million) to consumer loans, and 34 million manat to mortgage loans.
Moreover, non-performing loans accounted for 2.5 percent of the total loan portfolio.
A non-performing loan (NPL) refers to a loan where the borrower has failed to make full or partial repayments of principal or interest within the agreed-upon timeframe. Banks and financial institutions typically classify loans as non-performing if they have been overdue for more than 90 days, or in some cases, a longer period.
