ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 28. Kyrgyzstan will
supply Kazakhstan with more than 600 million cubic meters of water
via rivers during the irrigation season, Trend reports.
According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of
Kazakhstan, 400 million cubic meters of water will flow through the
Talas river and 180 million cubic meters through the Shu river.
The agreements were reached by the Minister of Water Resources of
Kazakhstan, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, and the Deputy Prime Minister of
Kyrgyzstan, Bakyt Torobaev, during the 35th meeting of the
Kazakhstani-Kyrgyz commission on the use of interstate water
management structures.
"Last year, thanks to joint efforts with our Kyrgyz colleagues, we
were able to fully supply farmers in the Zhambyl region with
irrigation water. Thus, 418 million cubic meters of water flowed
through the Talas river to Kazakhstan instead of the forecasted 380
million cubic meters. And 165.3 million cubic meters of water came
through the Shu river, which is 29.7 million cubic meters more than
the previous year," said Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
This water will be used for irrigating agricultural fields in the
Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan. As of April, a cumulative volume of
45 million cubic meters of water has been allocated since the
initiation of the irrigation season.
