The World Bank's (WB) Board of Executive Directors affirmed the allocation of additional $18 million for the project on the reduction of electric-power loss in Tajikistan, Avesta.tj reported on Wednesday.
The project, which was approved in 2005, helps to decrease the commercial loss also in the gas sector of the country. The project was restructured in February, 2011 due to inclusion of Tajikistan's Rohun Hydropower plant's (HPP) expertise expenses.
"Energy sector is of great importance for Tajikistan's economy and the welfare of the country's population," the WB's permanent representative in Dushanbe Marsha Olive said.
She expressed hope that additional funds will help Tajikistan to resolve the issues of energy security.
The WB hopes the allocated money will help Tajikistan to install more meters and as a result to increase the effectiveness of payments' collection from the population decreasing the commercial loss in energy sector.
