Some one million patients use nuclear medicine in Iran per year, IRNA quoted Iranian Atomic Energy Agency official Abbas Majdabadi as saying.
Producing nuclear medicine domestically will save foreign currency and removes the need for such drugs for cancer suffering patients, he added.
On April 9, Iran unveiled five new domestically produced nuclear medicines.
ISNA quoted Iranian Vice President for Scientific and Technological Affairs Nasrin Soltankhah as saying that Iran would unveil 28 science-based products in the near future.
In October 2012, ISNA quoted Iran's National Security Committee spokesman Hossein Naqavi Hosseini as saying that Iran will become self-sufficient in producing nuclear medicine in the current calendar year which began on March 21.
Iran experiences certain difficulties with drug shortages in the country, largely because of the international sanctions imposed on the country due to its disputed nuclear programme.
Despite the fact that the sanctions do not directly target medical supplies and food, many companies refuse to deal with Iran, fearing the impact of the sanctions.
