This Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018), 915,000 tons of pomegranates are expected to be produced in Iran, which is approximately 200,000 tons more compared to last Iranian year, Director General of the Tropical and Subtropical Fruits Department of the Iranian Agriculture Ministry Masoud Latifian said.
Meanwhile, 750,000 tons of pomegranates were collected last Iranian year, Trend reports citing IRNA.
Pomegranates are collected in all provinces, except Hamadan, Latifian said.
Thus, 25 percent of pomegranate harvest accounts for Fars province, 11 percent for Markazi province, 10 percent for Razavi Khorasan and Isfahan provinces, 7 percent for Yazd province and 6 percent for Semnan province, he said.
Pomegranates worth $4.7 million were exported during eight months of this Iranian year, Latifian added.
The product is exported to the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Oman, Turkmenistan, Qatar, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Austria, India, France, Pakistan and South Korea, he said.
