It is planned to increase the yield of millet in Turkmenistan’s Dashoguz region, Trend reports with reference to “Turkmenistan: Zolotoy Vek” (Turkmenistan: Golden Age) newspaper.
Some 15-20 centners of millet crop were received from each of over five hectares of land in the region.
Millet was planted in the fields of the region after the winter wheat harvest. So, millet can be used as agricultural plants grown in the intervals between harvesting and sowing the main crops, the report says.
The Turkmen Agricultural University is working on studying the reclamation state of local lands, cultivating various crops that are suitable for mass production in the climatic conditions of the Dashoguz region and can positively affect the increase in soil fertility.
So, earlier, for an area of 8 hectares were grown grain sorghum. Its yield was 30-40 centners of grain per hectare.
Turkmenistan is using foreign equipment in its agricultural sector, and in particular, the equipment provided by US companies such as John Deere Walldorf GmbH & Co.KG and Claas. Thus, earlier John Deere company delivered more cotton harvesting machines to Turkmenistan.
In August last year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental protection of Turkmenistan and John Deere Walldorf GmbH & Co.KG signed a memorandum for the development of telematic digitalization in the country's agro-industrial sector.
According to the document, in the next few years, John Deere and Claas will deliver brands special equipment for Turkmenistan.
Reportedly, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable, and fruits.
