Generation potential of Iran's power plants increases

Iran's electricity generation potential has reached 85,000 megawatt-hours with the launch of the 3rd steam unit of the Shirvan combined cycle power plant in the North Khorasan (northeastern Iran), Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Homayoun Haeri said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Energy of Iran.

The deputy minister noted that the electricity generation capacity of the steam unit of the Shirvan combined cycle power plant is 160 megawatt-hours.

Haeri added that the power plant has 6 gas and 3 steam units at present. With the launch of the steam unit, the power generation capacity of the power plant reached 1,430 megawatt-hours.

"The steam unit was built by Iran's MAPNA Group," he said.

According to the deputy minister, a total of 41 trillion rials (about $976 million) was spent on the steam section of the Shirvan combined cycle power plant in Iran's North Khorasan Province.

Today on Jan. 31, thirteen water and electricity facilities were launched in the North Khorasan and Kurdistan provinces of Iran. In total, 47.7 trillion rials (about $1.14 billion) were spent on the construction of these facilities.
