ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 8. Inflation in Kazakhstan slowed down in May 2025, with the monthly consumer price index (CPI) reaching 0.9 percent, compared to 1.2 percent in April 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan indicates that prices for paid services rose by 1.3 percent, food products by 0.9 percent, and non-food items by 0.6 percent. Among food products, significant price drops were observed:

Cucumbers saw the sharpest decline, falling by 37.1 percent, while tomatoes dropped by 19.8 percent, cabbage by 7.7 percent, bananas by 5.7 percent, and eggs by 2.4 percent. At the same time, some food prices rose: lemons increased by 9.1 percent, apples by 6.1 percent, pears by 5.2 percent, and grapes by 5.1 percent.
Moreover, among non-food goods, price increases were recorded for gold wedding rings (up 4.6 percent), construction materials (1.1 percent), as well as clothing, footwear, and personal care items (each by 0.8 percent).
In the housing and utilities sector, tariffs rose for cold water (by 4.2 percent), sewage services (1.6 percent), gas distributed through pipelines (1.5 percent), and electricity (1.4 percent). In addition, prices increased for railway transport services (by 2.1 percent) and sanatorium services (2 percent).
Regionally, the lowest monthly inflation was registered in the Karaganda region (0.2 percent), followed by Astana (0.3 percent). In the Akmola, Almaty, Mangystau, Turkistan, and Ulytau regions, the monthly inflation rate was 0.6 percent.
On a year-on-year basis, inflation in May 2025 reached 11.3 percent. Prices for paid services increased the most — by 16 percent, food products rose by 9.6 percent, and non-food goods by 9 percent. At the same time, some items became cheaper: buckwheat decreased in price by 12 percent, rice by 8.3 percent, sweet peppers by 5.5 percent, cucumbers by 2.6 percent, and dried apricots by 2.5 percent.
Notable year-on-year price increases were recorded for hairdressing and beauty salon services (up 14.6 percent), sanatorium services (14.4 percent), laptops (46.5 percent), gold wedding rings (35.6 percent), and tablets (31.9 percent).
The consumer price index, which reflects the level of inflation, is calculated monthly based on the prices and tariffs of 508 goods and services. Dynamic inflation trends can be tracked through a specially developed interactive dashboard, which includes data starting from 2018.
As of January 2025, the CPI structure is composed of 40.0 percent food products, 30.3 percent non-food goods, and 29.7 percent paid services.
