An Egyptian policeman was shot dead by smugglers at Egypt's border with the Gaza Strip, according to security sources on Friday, dpa reported
Sources told the German Press Agency dpa that the policeman was shot in the chest Thursday night during clashes with smugglers trying to take goods into the besieged Gaza Strip through underground tunnels.
The policeman was transferred to the Rafah Central Hospital, where he died of his wounds.
At least five border guards were killed last year in violence along Egypt's 11 kilometre-long border with Gaza
