Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 12 / Trend M.Aliyev /

Azerbaijan is considering annulling the visa regime for Turkish citizens, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Elkhan Polukhov told Trend today.

The issue was included on the agenda of Azerbaijan-Turkey inter-ministerial consultations in Baku during summer 2009, Polukhov said.

Turkey wants to strengthen cooperation with Azerbaijan, Turkish officials note.

"Annulling the visa system is on the agenda," Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party, the Turkish Sabah newspaper reported.

"In coming days, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov will arrive in Ankara," he added. "I believe the question of totally annulling of the visa system between the two countries will be resolved."

Azerbaijan has already annulled the visa regime for Turkish citizens with diplomatic and service passports and "now we are talking about abolishing visas for other Turkish nationals wishing to come to Azerbaijan," Polukhov said.
