Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 14 /corr. Trend J.Babayeva / The leadership of the National Television and Radio Council of Azerbaijan presented its claims to the regional TV channels with regards to broadcasting of films in foreign languages.

"We notified the heads of the regional TV channels that the State of Azerbaijan will make serious decisions against the channels which do not respect native language," Nushiravan Maharramli, chairman of the Council, told Trend on Jan. 14.

On Jan. 14, the Council held a meeting with the participation of the heads of regional TV channels. The meeting focused on implementation of the decisions made by the Council.

In the end of the last year, the Council made a decision prohibiting broadcasting of films in foreign language starting from Jan. 1, 2009.

Maharramli said that the monitoring held in the beginning of January revealed that majority of the regional TV channels do not implement the decisions by the Council.

"Since the first days of January were holiday days, the Council's decision was late presented to the TV channels. Therefore, during the holidays days the decisions were not fulfilled, but the results of this fault were eliminated," Maharramli said.

Some 21 regional TV channels function in Azerbaijan.
