TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 3. The Khorezm region is targeting six percent economic growth in 2025, alongside attracting $1.5 billion in foreign direct investment and generating $510 million in exports, Trend reports, citing the Uzbek President’s Office.
In Koshkupyr district, an Uzbek-Chinese technopark is being developed on 175 hectares, which will host 16 investment projects totaling $1 billion. Meanwhile, in Tuprakkala, the first stage of a $10 billion gas-chemical complex will begin, expected to produce 2 million tons of 14 types of high-value polymer products annually.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced these plans during a meeting in Urgench, where he outlined the region’s strategic socio-economic priorities. He noted that in 2024 alone, 7,000 new entrepreneurs launched businesses, 47 companies transitioned from small to medium-sized, and more than 10 enterprises surpassed 200 billion soums ($17.5 million) in turnover — leading to the creation of 290,000 jobs.
Despite these achievements, challenges remain. The poverty rate in the region stands at 12 percent, and 45,000 people remain unemployed. The president emphasized the need for local authorities to actively convert available resources into viable development projects focused on job creation, industrial growth, services, tourism, agriculture, and export expansion.
Mirziyoyev noted that Khorezm will implement 91 projects worth $200 million in 2025, with the goal of creating 100,000 jobs, attracting 2 million foreign and 10 million domestic tourists, and boosting tourism exports to $700 million.
