Considering the importance of wheat and the fact that the government guarantees its purchase, farmers of Iranshahr county of Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province have sown wheat in 6,000 hectares of land, Deputy Governor General of the province Nabi Bakhsh Davoodi said, Trend reports via IRNA.
The county's climate and the fertile soil has turned it into a wheat hub of Iran, he said.
On average, 3.5-4 tons of wheat are harvested from each hectare, Davoodi said, adding that therefore, 24,000 tons of wheat are expected to be harvested from the 6,000 hectares this year.
Over 3,000 people are employed in Iranshar's wheat fields, he said.
He further noted that the harvest will begin in April.
Some 30,000 hectares of land plot have been allocated for agriculture in the county.
