Turkmenistan has participated in the quadripartite meeting on the development of the Caspian Sea - Black Sea international transit transport route, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The meeting was held between representatives of a number of ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania via a videoconference on May 7, 2020.
The participants discussed issues related to increasing cargo transportation through the ports of Turkmenbashi, Baku, Poti, Batumi and Constanta along the future transport corridor.
The parties stressed the global nature of this route and its potential for the development of economic partnership, cooperation in energy, trade and investment sectors.
The need for information exchange and the possibility of using digital technologies during the project implementation were also considered.
Earlier, Georgia and Turkmenistan discussed the prospects of the Caspian Sea - Black Sea transit transport corridor. It is expected to be more efficient than cargo transportation through the Volga–Don Shipping Canal, which is part of the deep-water transport system of Russia’s European part, said the ministry.
