ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 5. The total transshipment of cargo at the Kazakhstan's port of Aktau amounted to 3.386 million tons for 9 months of 2023, which is 22 percent more than the same period in 2022, Trend reports.
This was announced during the VI New Silk Way International Transport and Logistics Business Forum.
Currently, the port of Aktau is a modern multi-purpose terminal with extensive warehouse areas providing high-quality and reliable storage of goods, dry cargo and oil berths, and a grain terminal.
During the forum, it was noted that the port of Aktau is an integral part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR or Middle Corridor), whose participants are railway, port and shipping companies from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, Ukraine, Poland, Uzbekistan, Romania, and China.
Currently, activities have begun to create a container hub in the port of Aktau. The implementation of the project for the construction of a container hub will allow the formation of a container park on the port territory for the countries of the Caspian region and Central Asia, providing a full range of services for transshipment of containers and repacking of goods, warehouse services, railway sidings, workshops for repair and inspection of containers, and more.
In the medium term, the Aktau port is tasked with expanding its throughput capacity by increasing its infrastructure capacity for oil transshipment to 20 million tons per year.
The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern Corridor and Southern Corridor. The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before reaching Europe. The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the longer maritime routes.
