ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 12. The economic growth of the Kazakh city of Almaty is expected to accelerate to 6.5 percent by the end of 2023, said head of the city executive power Yerbolat Dosayev during a meeting with the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Trend reports.
As he noted, dynamic growth of the city's economy was ensured from January through September, the short-term economic indicator has increased by 13.5 percent since the beginning of the year.
Dosayev noted that Almaty consistently ranks first in the country in terms of the pace of development of the manufacturing industry (+21 percent).
According to him, more than 1 trillion tenge (about $2.1 trillion) of investment was attracted to the economy of the metropolis, with the growth of private investment amounting to 7.3 percent.
In addition, the number of actively operating SMEs increased by 25.8 percent - to 341,000 units.
"Revenues to the republican budget increased by 38.4 percent - to 3.91 trillion tenge (about $8.2 billion), the plan for revenues to the local budget was exceeded by 28.7 percent (243 billion tenge or about $510 million)," he said.
As Dosayev added, since the beginning of the year, 58,700 jobs have been created, of which 77 percent are permanent.
As previously reported, the financial capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty, leads in terms of the share of SMEs in the country's GDP.
Data from the Kazakhstan Institute of Economic Research shows that the contribution of business in Almaty amounted to 10.7 percent as of January 1, 2023.
Financial capital also leads by a large margin in terms of registered and active small and medium-sized enterprises.
The total share of Almaty's business output in relation to the republican one is 28.5 percent..
