ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 20. In order to digitalize the North-South transport corridor, the Kazakhstan Railways has concluded an agreement on a strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi Port, the Deputy Chairman of the Railway and Water Transport Committee of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan Kassym Tlepov said, Trend reports.
He spoke at a briefing of the Central Communications Service under Kazakhstan's President.
According to him, one of the areas of cooperation is automating technological processes at checkpoints in accordance with the standards of the International Maritime Organization.
"Also, in collaboration with the customs authorities, work is underway on the transition to round-the-clock operation of sea checkpoints. A single window will be created in ports to process ship documents and cargoes transshipped to ships. For these purposes, we are working on ratification of the Convention of the International Maritime Organization to facilitate international maritime navigation,” Kassym Tlepov noted.
The North-South International Transport Corridor is a 7,200-kilometer multimodal route that connects St. Petersburg with the ports of Iran and India.
It is an alternative to the sea route connecting Europe, the Persian Gulf countries, and the Indian Ocean via the Suez Canal.
The western and eastern branches of the ITC pass through Iran; the western branch provides for transportation through Iran by road via Rasht, and the eastern branch by rail. The port of Bandar Abbas, located in Iran, serves as the final point for cargo delivery to India by sea. The western branch also passes through Azerbaijan, while the eastern branch passes through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
