BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 21. Kyrgyz Railways National Company has disclosed progress on the construction of the Balykchy-Kochkor railway in the Kochkor district of the Naryn region, Trend reports.
Currently, work is underway on the railway's substructure, including the installation of drainage pipes and the laying of tracks and sleepers. A total of 35 kilometers of railway has already been constructed.
Planned drilling and blasting operations will cover a length of 6 kilometers, aimed at removing natural obstacles and creating optimal conditions for further construction. More than 100 workers and approximately 60 units of specialized equipment are involved in the project.
The railway construction is being funded through the resources of the state-owned Kyrgyz Railways.
The Balykchy-Kochkor-Makmal railway holds strategic significance for both the region and the country as a whole.
The Balykchy-Kochkor railway will connect to the Makmal transshipment station, linking it with the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway. This connection will be important for creating a unified railway network in the region. The project is expected to be completed within six years.
The total length of the Balykchy-Kochkor-Makmal route is approximately 315 kilometers.
