BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, February 14. Passenger traffic at Osh International Airport in Kyrgyzstan reached 5.8 million people in 2024, increasing by 47 percent from 3.9 million in 2021, President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov, said during the launch of the new terminal complex construction in the airport, Trend reports via the president's administration.

According to the president, the new terminal complex will allow for the servicing of up to 900 passengers per hour.

"This will undoubtedly significantly improve the quality and convenience of services provided. This project is an important step in developing the country's aviation infrastructure. Its successful implementation will strengthen Kyrgyzstan's aviation sector," Zhaparov said.

The president also emphasized the need to modernize the existing airport. Built in 1974, it can no longer fully meet the requirements of modern times, given the increase in passenger traffic, cargo volumes, and flight numbers.

He added that by 2027, the reconstruction of the runways at the airports of Bishkek and Osh will be completed to ensure flight safety in all weather conditions.

"We aim to expand the airport's route network, attract new airlines, and increase cargo volumes. Furthermore, our long-term vision is to transform Osh International Airport into not just a transportation hub but an important economic center, contributing to the development of tourism and business," Zhaparov concluded.

The capacity of the new terminal complex will exceed 5 million passengers annually. It will be built with two floors and a basement, covering a total area of 25,443 square meters.
