DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, April 19. The value of agricultural production in Tajikistan's Sughd region amounted to 1.6 billion somoni ($149 million) from January through March 2025, Deputy Chairman of the region Fayzullo Qosimi said during a working meeting, where he presented a report on the region’s socio-economic development, Trend reports.
He noted that the volume of output increased by 9.3 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
This year, spring sowing is planned on 172,990 hectares of land, including 59,633 hectares for cotton and 18,500 hectares for potatoes. The campaign is progressing actively, with 38,396 hectares already sown.
In the reporting period, the region produced 431.2 tons of vegetables, 22,200 tons of livestock and poultry meat (including 4,600 tons of poultry meat), 358.6 tons of fish, 81,400 tons of milk, 212.9 million eggs, and 217.7 tons of wool. Compared to 2024, production increased as follows: vegetables – 6.4 percent, meat – 17 percent (poultry – 22 percent), fish – 0.5 percent, milk – 3 percent, eggs – 36.4 percent, and wool – 17 percent.
As of April 17, 2025, local farms established 209 hectares of new orchards and vineyards, restored 773 hectares, and developed 72 hectares of intensive gardens.
In addition, Qosimi reported on developments in education, healthcare, youth and sports, women and family affairs, tourism, culture, regulation of ceremonies, and citizen engagement. Heads of several cities and districts also presented updates. The regional chairman gave instructions on boosting production and exports, conducting spring planting on time, meeting cotton and potato targets, conserving electricity, increasing tax revenue, and completing construction projects ahead of the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence.
