A cooperation agreement was signed between several Iranian and Egyptian tourism companies in Tehran on Monday, the Iranian Fars news agency quoted Chairman of Iran-Egypt Council of Merchants Muhyaddin Al-Gandur as saying.
Al-Gandur added that according to the agreement signed in the Iranian Commerce and Industry Chamber, every month 10,000 Iranians will visit Egypt, while 60,000 Egyptians will visit Iran. He said that the agreement will be executed as soon as Iran and Egypt appoint ambassadors.
Iran will appoint an ambassador to Egypt in the next six months, the news agency quoted a source wishing to remain anonymous in the Iranian Foreign Ministry as saying.
Last week, Iranian media reported that Iran appointed a new ambassador to Egypt after talks between its Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi. Later, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast refuted this information.
Iran severed ties with Egypt after Cairo signed the 1978 Camp David Accords with Israel and offered asylum to Iran's deposed monarch Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Relations between the two countries have become warmer after the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak's regime in Egypt.
