Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said an investigation has been launched upon an Interpol request on a suspect wanted over an alleged Iranian plot, the Asharq Alawsat newspaper reported.

"Interpol has sent us a request to establish identity of accused Gholam Shakuri," Salehi said. "The investigation revealed that 150 Gholam Shakuris live in Iran while only one Gholam Shakuri lives in the U.S. and is a member of the Mujahedeen-e Khalq Organisation."

Two weeks earlier, the U.S. authorities said they had broken up plans by two men linked to Iranian Quds Force - a special unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) - to assassinate Saudi Ambassador to Washington Adel al-Jubeir.

Iran denies the allegations saying the U.S. uses this tactic to slander again Iran. The IRGC also rejected any involvement of the Quds force in the plot alleged by the United States.

While Manssour Arbabsiar, a 56-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen detained in the United States, Shakuri is supposed to be in Iran.
