Iran sees surge in non-oil exports via East Azerbaijan Province customs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 6. The volume of non-oil exports through customs in Iran's East Azerbaijan Province has seen a notable increase of 34 percent in value and 35 percent in weight in the past eleven months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through February 18, 2025) compared to the same period last year (from March 21, 2023, through February 19, 2024), Sadegh Namdar, the province's Customs head, told reporters, Trend reports.

According to Namdar, the region’s non-oil exports amounted to a total of $1.86 billion, with a weight of 3.59 million tons during this period.

The products mainly exported included iron, steel, petrochemical items, rubber, fruits, vegetables, and mineral ores. These goods were exported to 96 countries, including Türkiye, Iraq, Georgia, and Azerbaijan.

Namdar also highlighted that the imports through East Azerbaijan’s customs amounted to $1.85 billion, with a total of 535,000 tons, reflecting an increase of 18 percent in value and 8 percent in weight compared to the previous year.

"The province's main imports included equipment and spare parts, red meat, tobacco, gold bars, and other products, primarily from Türkiye, the UAE, China, Germany, and Japan," the official added.

To note, Iran's Customs Administration data shows that the country's total exports of non-oil products amounted to 141 million tons worth $53.4 billion during 11 months. Compared to the same period last year, non-oil exports increased by 19 percent in value and 12.6 percent in weight.

Iran's Customs Administration data shows that Iran imported 35 million tons of products worth $63.6 billion during 11 months. While Iran's imports of products rose by 5.6 percent in value and decreased by 2.6 percent in weight compared to the same period last year.
