Iran's East Azerbaijan Province customs notes growth in last year's trade turnover

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 10.​ Trade turnover through the customs of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), has increased by 23.5 percent in value and 29.5 percent in weight compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Sadegh Namdar, head of the provincial customs service, told local media, Trend reports.

According to him, the province's customs processed a trade turnover worth over $4 billion, with a total weight of 4.5 million tons. This trade was facilitated through customs in Tabriz, Sahlan, Jolfa, Nordooz, Maragheh, and Bonāb.

Namdar further emphasized that exports through the province’s customs amounted to over $2 billion, or 3.89 million tons of goods. This represents a 32 percent increase in value and a 33 percent increase in weight compared to the previous year.

Key export products included iron and steel worth $433 million, petrochemical and rubber products worth $349 million, fruit worth $291 million, minerals and mineral oils worth $151 million, and copper products valued at $104 million. The main export destinations were Türkiye ($848 million), Armenia ($306 million), Iraq ($258 million), Georgia ($87 million), and Azerbaijan ($73 million).

Regarding imports, in the same period, East Azerbaijan's customs handled 612,000 tons of goods worth over $2 billion. Import figures showed a 16 percent increase in value and an 11 percent increase in weight compared to the previous year. Notably, imports included vehicles and spare parts worth $467 million, various machinery and equipment valued at $291 million, red meat worth $193 million, tobacco valued at $154 million, and gold bullion worth $116 million. Major sources of imports were Türkiye ($1.28 billion), China ($221 million), the UAE ($220 million), Germany ($105 million), and Japan ($30 million).

Moreover, the data from Iran’s Customs Administration shows that the country exported non-oil products worth approximately $57.8 billion and weighing around 152 million tons during the last Iranian year. This marked a 15.6 percent increase in value and a 10 percent increase in weight compared to the previous year.

The report also mentioned that Iran's imports during the same period totaled $72.3 billion, with a weight of 39.3 million tons, reflecting a 7.22 percent increase in value, though weight decreased by 1 percent year-on-year.
