Tehran, Iran, July 8

Trend:

Iran seeks to inspire people to pay taxes by increasing their knowledge of how taxation effects the charges and social costs, said the Minister of Economic affairs and finance, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"The result of tax payment is better security, better education, improved health and medical services, reduction of poverty and contribution to the country's progress. Thus, raising people's awareness of tax charges' effect on public costs will increase their motivation to pay for taxes," said Farhad Dejpasand.

"The current situation, the sanctions and drop of oil revenues is an opportunity to use the potential of taxes in the country, as it will reduce the consequences of unfair sanctions," he added during a meeting to celebrate Tax Day

"To have a budget that is not dependent on oil is a golden opportunity to use other non-oil revenues. This is a good chance to reform the structure of the oil dependent budget and strengthen the economy," he noted.

"Hopefully, voluntary tax payment will become a national duty and it will contribute to sustainable development, protection of economy from the sanctions, social welfare and Iran's economic growth," Dejpasand added.
