Iran's unemployment rate takes nosedive

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 7. The unemployment rate among people aged 15 and older in Iran decreased by 0.4 percent in the summer period (June 21–September 21, 2024) compared to the previous year (June 22–September 22, 2023), the statement of Iran's Statistics Center said, Trend reports.

According to the statistics, the number of unemployed in Iran in the mentioned 3 months was about 2.05 million (2,046,111 people). It accounted for 7.5 percent of the active society in terms of employment.

The statistics indicate that the number of unemployed aged 15–24 years old was 529,000 (528,702) and the number of unemployed aged 18–35 years old was 1.4 million (1,455,063).

In addition, there were around 898,000 (897,622) unemployed Iranians with a bachelor's degree or above in 3 months. This is a decrease of 0.8 percent over the previous year.

The data indicates that the population of individuals aged 15 years and older in Iran during the specified time was around 65.2 million (65,241,538). Of the total, 38 million (38,066,138) individuals were classified as economically inactive, while 25.1 million (25,129,289) were classified as economically active.
