BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 20. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at western ports of Hormozgan Province, located in southern Iran, has grown by 14 percent since the beginning of the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2025) compared to the same period last year, the Director of Ports and Maritime Affairs in Western Hormozgan Morteza Salari told reporters, Trend reports.
He said that during the period, more than one million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the province's western ports.
Salari pointed out that about 439,000 tons of the cargo were crude oil and petroleum products, and 574,000 tons were non-oil products.
The official mentioned that 25,000 tons were transited through the western ports, and more than 12,000 passenger cars were transited to Central Asian countries and Iraq in the reporting period.
"During the period under review, 3,110 ships called at the western ports of the province, while 326 of them had a capacity exceeding 1,000 tons and 2,790 less than 1,000 tons," he added.
To note, 10 ports operate in the west of Hormozgan Province. Among these ports, Lenge, Charak, Siri, and Lavan ports are the most active.
The current capacity of Iranian ports is reported to be more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of its ports to 500 million tons.
