Veteran singer-songwriter Neil Diamond topped the charts with an album of new material on Sunday as "Home Before Dark" went straight to number one, the Official UK Charts Company said, Reuters reported.

The 67-year-old Diamond's triumph comes 42 years after the release of his debut album "The Feel of Neil Diamond" and 16 years after his only other number one album success with his compilation "The Greatest Hits 1962-1992".

Diamond's British success has been replicated in the United States, where "Home Before Dark" was his first number one in the Billboard Top 200.

In at two in Britain was Pendulum's drum and bass and dance-rock hybrid album "In Silico", the second of four new entries in the top 10, as last week's number one "Jumping All Over the World" by German dance group Scooter slipped to three.

Jay Sean's "My Own Way" entered at six, while Frank Sinatra and "Nothing But The Best" came in at 10.

In the singles chart the Ting Tings' catchy summer anthem "That's Not My Name" went straight to number one as Manchester duo Jules De Martino and Katie White held off the challenge of R& B singer Rihanna's "Take a Bow", the only other top 10 new entry.

Madonna, who had enjoyed a four-week reign at the top of the singles, slipped to three with "4 Minutes", featuring Justin Timberlake.
