The operation, launched by Turkish Armed Forces in northern Iraq after Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants committed a terror act against Turkish military, ended today, Vatan newspaper said.
According to the Turkish General Staff, the operation lasted five days. It was headed by Chief of General Staff Necdet Ozen. About 5,000 servicemen participated in the operation. About 49 PKK terrorists were neutralized.
Turkey has recently launched an active struggle against terrorism. Turkish armed force inflict strikes on Kurdish separatists in northern Iraq and Turkey.
Turkey resumed attacks on the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) after militants' attack in south-eastern Turkey on the evening of August 17, in which nine servicemen were killed.
In response to the attack of Kurdish militants in Hakkari province bordering with Iraq, which killed 24 Turkish servicemen and wounded 18 on the night of October 19, the Turkish army launched a major ground operation in five regions of Northern Iraq on Thursday.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which has continued for more than 25 years, put an end to lives of over 40,000 people. PKK is recognized as terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
