Democratic Reforms Party (RDP) of Azerbaijan considers it appropriate to send a list of 38 individuals who participated in committing Khojaly tragedy to the military prosecutor's offices of countries cooperating with Azerbaijan in the legal sphere in order to make them criminally responsible promptly.
The party will use all possible means to bring to international attention the facts of crimes committed in Khojaly and other occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
On Feb. 25-26 February, 1992 Armenian occupation forces together with the 366-th infantry regiment of the Soviet troops stationed in Khankendi (earlier Stepanakert) fired Azerbaijani Khojali town by all kinds of artillery systems, and then occupied the town in Nagorno-Karabakh of Azerbaijan, located about 23 km from Khankendi.
Armenian troops committed genocide in Khojali on Feb. 26, 1992. The tragedy began early morning. Within hours, over 613 unarmed Azerbaijani citizens were killed. Among them were 106 women and 83 children. About 1,000 people were disabled by shots; 8 families were fully destroyed. A total of 25 children lost both of their parents and 130 children lost one of them. About 1,275 people were taken prisoner and around 150 people went missing. Eight families were completely killed.
The DRP has also proposed to establish a special working group on operational-investigative actions under the National Security Ministry in connection with the Khojaly tragedy. "The party believes that this working group in cooperation with law enforcement agencies of the countries signing appropriate legal agreements with Azerbaijan can operate effectively in the capture and extradition of 38 criminals guilty of Khojaly tragedy, as well as perpetrators of war crimes in other occupied territories of Azerbaijan," said the statement.
