In connection with the 18th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, the Azerbaijani embassy in Sofia organized and conducted a series of events that allowed the general public in Bulgaria to once again know about the facts of the Armenian aggression, the Azerbaijani embassy in Bulgaria said.
On the eve of the mourning date, the embassy sent to various government and non-government organizations a package of materials containing information about the Khojaly tragedy: books and brochures, provided by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, as well as special press releases of the embassy.
On Feb. 25, the popular Bulgarian national channel broadcasted a special telecast about Azerbaijan. Its main content was dedicated to the memory of victims of Khojaly genocide. Responding to numerous questions from the Bulgarian national television, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Sofia Elman Zeynalov provided details about the vandalism and the massacre of Armenians in those tragic days, saying that so far the world community has not assessed the acts being committed by the Armenians.
Armenian military forces committed genocide acts in the town of Khojali, Azerbaijan, with the population of 7,000 people on Feb. 26 1992. There were 3,000 people in the town at the time of Armenian military forces' attack. Most part of the population had to leave town during four months blockade. 613 people were killed, 1,000 peaceful people of different age became invalid during Khojali genocide. 106 women, 63 children, 70 old men were killed. 8 families were completely annihilated, 130 children lost one parents, while 25 both of them. 1,275 peace residents were taken hostages, while the fate of 150 of them is still unknown.
