A.Badalova / The United States is to render the assistance to Azerbaijan to hold fair presidential elections in the country, Matthew Bryza, Deputy Assistant of the US Secretary of State on Europe and Eurasia, stated in the 15th anniversary of international conference "Caspian Oil and Gas, Oil Refining". The exhibition and conference was implemented by the company Iteca Caspian.
"We will try to create conditions to hold the fair presidential elections in Azerbaijan," Bryza said.
The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan in autumn 2008.
According to Bryza, the current year is very significant for Azerbaijan both from the strategic and security points of view. "One of the most important decisions of this year will be the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan. The results of elections will affect the further development rate in the country," Bryza stated.
"We support the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. If we want to reach the peace agreement we should follow the political principles," Bryza said.
The Deputy Assistant noted the significance of the meeting between the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian's Serzh Sargsyan, which is planning to hold in St.Petersburg. As for the energy issues, Bryza said that the use of energy resources is quite important for Azerbaijan.
The American diplomat noted the importance of diversification of the energy supplies. "A serious competition is necessary to develop market. Gas must be supplied from different sources on the different prices," Bryza said.
