First ladies Maria Kaczynski from Poland, Latvia, Angola, South Africa, as well as the spouse of the Turkish Premier, the spouse of Texas St. Governor, the spouse of the Argentinean Vice President, the Vice President of Russian Federation Council, arrived in Baku to participate in an international forum "Consolidation of Women's Role in inter-culture dialogue. The conference is organized at the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Lady of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan was the first country in the Muslim world granting women with freedom. The role of women ought to be strengthened and grow, Aliyeva said in her opening remarks to the forum.
"As lower the woman status is in society, as more problems exist in society. Strengthening of socio-economic rights of women could ensure the achievement of peace," she said.
According to Aliyeva, 1,400 years ago Islam granted woman a right for life, choice of husband, etc, whereas women in other civilizations received such rights considerably later.
"Woman rights in Islamic civilization are not the same with that reflected in the western civilization every day and the OIC Youth Forum will closely cooperate with other organizations to provide the world community with the truth and fulfill this gap," Aliyeva said.
The OIC Youth Forum coordinator proposed to hold a workshop for young women in Baku next year.
